Determined to contribute his quota by creating jobs for youths in his constituency, a member of the Federal House of Assembly, Kehinde Odeneye, has trained over 700 youths in various vocational capacity.
Besides, the Honourable member also gave grants and equipment needed for the youths to practice their vocations on completion of their training.

Speaking at the second phase of the graduation ceremony, he said 700 out of 10,000 youths from Ijebu Central constituency, who enrolled for the programme had completed their training.

According to him, his decision to embark on the project was informed by the high rate of unemployment in the country and his constituency in particular.

Besides, he explained that about 10,000 youths were enrolled and trained in arrears such as vulcanising, shoe making, motor mechanic, hairdressing, barbing and fashion designing while about 700 were adjudged successful for graduation.

Oduneye enjoined beneficiaries of the scheme to ensure that they bring all they were taught to bear in their various fields, adding that, they stand a good chance of improving their livelihood with their crafts.

“What you are seeing here today is an empowerment programme for youths. In the country, a lot of people are broke, there is no money but in order to encourage people, we are doing this. We cannot give it out to anybody but for the few people, who will benefit here today, we are showing appreciation for all the things they have done and the support they have given us.
Politicians should always learn to empower the youths, instead of just dashing out money to them, as such financial giving cannot add value to their lives.

“Our amiable governor is gender sensitive and he has been working every day not just to provide infrastructural development but also in the area of human development, ”Odeneye said.

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Yetunde Onanuga, urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the training they had received as well as the vocational tools.

‘’Empowering individual is to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country, not for you to keep the trade equipment at home or sell it to get money that won’t sustain profit for long” she said.

Besides, Onanuga called on other public office holders to emulate the empowerment programmes of Odeneye.
Recalling the success of empowerment programmes in the past, Odeneye said about 1,500 people were trained in hairdressing, barbing, fashion designing and soap making.

“During my first term as your representative, I had the privilege of contributing to human development by empowering over 1500 constituents irrespective of political affinity on a single day in various vocations such as hairdressing, barbing, fashion designing a soap making and also providing them with their working tools.

“The food processing centre at the Ogbogbo has been constructed as promised by me and waiting for the installation of the necessary machines while the Information and Communications Technology centre project at Imoru is ongoing.”

“I want to thank the trainers and the trainees in the skills acquisition programme for their patience, belief and support for my vision, which has subsisted till date.”
