Imo to train 200 council workers on ICT, others

Any worker in the local councils that record less than 60 per cent attendance would be sanctioned, the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha has said.

Also, the governor has directed that the first session of 200 workers of the councils be trained on the Information Communication Technology (ICT), to expose them to computer literacy.

Okorocha, who stated this recently while inspecting some prototype projects in the councils, regretted that records indicated that many workers at that level had 40 percent attendance receiving salaries with from payers money.

His words: ‘’Workers who have not come to work up to 60 per cent in a year will be dismissed. For those who have attended 40 per cent only will be asked to take a stick and be warned. For Local Government workers who did not attend 60 per cent of their time will be dismissed.

Time has gone when people will just write their names as Local Government worker and trade elsewhere and live at the taxes of the poor masses, contributing nothing to the development of the state. We must ensure that discipline returns back to the Local Government.’’

Okorocha also directed all the 27 Transition Caretaker Committee Council chairmen to reside in their various councils’ headquarters in the next second quarter of the year.

‘’We want to make sure that all workers are computer literate. All TC chairmen will reside in the Local Government headquarters by second quarter.’’

He directed that the chairmen should ensure early completion of the chapels and ICT centres soon.
