Shittu cautions bankers against corrupt practices

The Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu has cautioned practitioners in the banking industry to eschew practices that could undermine the integrity of the profession.

Speaking at the commissioning of Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) learning center and unveiling of Alhaji Amusa Otiti Library, in Lagos recently, he noted that the banking profession which remains the soul and spirit of the nation’s economy, must be practiced with utmost integrity.

He added that Information Communications and Technology (ICT), which is the fourth industrial revolution, must be fully embraced by bankers, accountants and Nigerians in general.

In his speech, CIBN President, Prof Segun Ajibola noted that a world class professional body like CIBN needs a befitting resource center, hence the essence of establishing the learning center. According to him, the facilities in the learning center would provide the future generations for their certifications.

Similarly, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode who was represented by the Commissioner for finance, Akinyemi Asade, stated that the banking industry has contributed immensely to making Lagos the fifth economy in Africa. He added that the state would continue to be partner in progress with CIBN.

On his part, President, Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria (ICAN) Alh Ismaila Zakar noted that ICAN would continue to deepen relationship with CIBN. He said should always count on ICAN for progressive collaboration.
