No fewer 200 of the 1065 persons targeted for training and empowerment by the Vicar Hope Foundation (VHF) under the auspices of Springboard Skills Acquisition Programme have completed their training.

The beneficiaries were also empowered with start-up capital and tools for their own businesses. The start-up tools comprised cash and training in tailoring and fashion, computers, events decoration, video and still cameras, as well as hairdressing and barbing, among others.

The founder/ facilitator of the VHF and wife of Abia State governor, Nkechi Ikpeazu, said at the empowerment ceremony of 50 graduates in Aba South Local council that the training was carried out by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

“Our plan is to equip the graduates to start immediately to contribute to the state’s economy, the target of this project is to train over 1065 Abians with skills that can make them self reliant and economically vibrant,” she said.

She added that the beneficiaries would be closely monitored in order to ensure that they are really applying what they learnt and making progress hence she charged all beneficiaries of the programme to take it very serious.

“Gone are the days when skills acquisition training was hurriedly done and the students after graduation and empowerment, ended up selling the equipment given them and go back to square one,” she added.

The governor’ wife used the VHF and Springboard platforms to provide healthcare to the indigent, education for the young and home for widows and widowers.
So far, the foundation has given 41 fully furnished bungalows to widows and widowers in the state.
