Armed robbers fleeing in vehicle injure traders in Rivers


There was pandemonium, yesterday, when four suspected armed robbers rammed traders at Bishop Okoye Street, Mile 3 Diobu, Port Harcourt City Local Council of Rivers State.

An eyewitness, identified simply as Rachael, said the traders had displayed their wares for the day’s business, when a fast-moving Toyota Sienna vehicle with the four occupants ploughed into them.

According to her, the occupants pushed their heads through the windows and brandished guns. She said the incident caused confusion and left many injured, even as police officers ran after the fleeing robbers. She disclosed that many goods were also destroyed.

The Guardian, however, learnt that the gunmen were intercepted and arrested around Olu-Obasanjo road.Confirming the incident, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the men were apprehended by detectives attached to Olu-Obasanjo Police Division.

According to her, three of the suspects were arrested while one escaped. She added that an investigation was ongoing.
