Organisers of the yearly NollywoodWeek Film Festival in Paris have announced the official selection of films for this year’s festival, which would take place in Paris from June 2-5, 2016. The announcement was made during a private VIP cocktail for Nollywood industry professionals hosted by Mr. Laurent Polonceaux, the General Consul of France in Lagos, at his private residence last Thursday.

The event was well attended by top Nollywood actors, directors, producers, the press, international investors, French professionals as well as directors and actors whose films were selected for this year’s festival. Also in attendance were notable Nollywood directors including the director Kunle Afolayan who is now the ambassador for Peugeot and Air France. The organisers had announced that Afolayan’s much anticipated film, The CEO, would premiere at this year’s festival.

The other films in official selection are Fifty directed by Biyi Bandele, Falling by Niyi Akinmolayan, The First Lady by Omoni Oboli, Stalker by Moses Inwang, Gbomo Gbomo Express by Walt Taylaur, Lunch Time Heroes by Seyi Babatope, and Taxi Driver by Daniel Oriahi. It was also announced that, for the first time, the festival would showcase a selection of short films. Seven short films have made the selection, which consists of Hex, Prey, Joy, The Encounter, Keko, Ireti and The Good Son.

NollywoodWeek is a film festival organised by the French-based association Okada Media, headed by Serge Noukoué and Nadira Shakur. The festival was created to fill the void of quality Nigerian cinema in the French market.

“This year we received an unprecedented amount of submissions of great quality which made the selection process very difficult”, Executive Director, Serge Noukoué stated. “A great sign that the industry is heading in the right direction”.
