Bilateral trade: Tuggar co-chairs China-Nigeria inter-governmental committee meeting in Beijing

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, is in Beijing, China, on an official working visit on the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Mr. Wang Yi.
 
The minister, who arrived in China on June 19, delivered a keynote address at the China-Nigeria Business Exchange event yesterday. The event, which was jointly organised by the Nigerian Embassy and Yingke Law Firm, was designed to boost bilateral trade and investment as well as foster business matchmaking to deepen economic ties between Nigeria and China.
  
In his presentation, Tuggar emphasised the importance of the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and China, highlighting mutual respect and shared developmental goals.
 
He highlighted the critical role of such business exchanges in driving economic growth and diversification.
 
According to him, the event was a testament to the parties’ commitment to strengthen the existing relationship between Nigeria-China.
 
“By fostering direct business engagements, we are paving the way for increased bilateral trade, investment opportunities and innovative collaborations that will benefit both nations,” he said.
  
Over 200 Chinese companies took part in the event, showing a strong interest in fostering economic collaboration between the two nations.

Key Nigerian dignitaries and business leaders in attendance included the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Aisha Rimi; Executive Vice Chairman, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu and Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Abayomi Oyebanji, who was represented by the Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Digital Economy, Oluwaseun Fakuade.
  
As part of his working visit, Tuggar will take part in several high-level meetings and events, including the inaugural Plenary Session of the Nigeria-China Intergovernmental Committee in Beijing and the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Dalian.
  
These engagements are expected to further solidify the strategic partnership between Nigeria and China. He is also expected to meet with ECOWAS Ambassadors as well as launch the 4D Cultural Diplomacy Programme of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Embassy of Nigeria.
  
“Similarly, the visit is aimed at deepening economic and trade collaboration,” the Ministry said.
