Customs Intercepts 2,000 cartons of frozen poultry

cartons-of-poultry-600x330The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘C’  Owerri, has impounded a 40-foot container carrying 2,000 cartons of frozen poultry products in Benin, Edo State.

According to NCS, the imported frozen products were concealed in 3,300 crates of drinks is valued at N53.3million.
The Customs Area Controller of the unit, Comptroller Haruna Mamudu, explained that the frozen products might have been preserved with chemicals meant for the preservation of dead bodies.

A statement issued by the zones Public Relation Officer, Onuigbo Ifeoma,, explained that
the  Command had equally seized 1,500 cartons of similar products in January.

The statement  also disclosed that total seizures made by the unit as at February were worth N219.2million, adding 12 suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

Meanwhile, the  products have been handed over to officials of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
