A Kano High Court has sentenced a Chinese national, Frank Geng-Quangrong, to death by hanging for killing his girlfriend.

Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji of Kano State High Court has sentenced a Chinese National, Frank Geng-Quangrong to death by hanging on Tuesday.

Quangrong was found guilty and convicted of committing a one count charge of culpable homicide for stabbing his Kano girl friend Ummukulsum Buhari to death.

Justice Ma’aji declared that the Chinese national was found guilty of offense punishable under section 221 (b) of Kano state penal.

Delivering judgment on the murder case, Justice Ma’aji declared that the confessional and writing statements of the defendant were inconsistently riddled.

Justice Ma’aji dismissed the evidence and testimony of the defence counsel who arrogated a claim of self defence as to the reason why his client committed the act.

The presiding Judge however held that the court did not found any merit in the claim of the defense counsel to proof his client’s self defense claim.

While ordering that the convict should be hang until the he (convict) breath his last breathe, Justice Ma’aji granted the prayer of the defense counsel, Mohammed Dan’Azumi on prerogative of mercy.

Reacting to the Judgment, the lead prosecution counsel and Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi expressed satisfaction on the judgment of the court. He said the decision of the court has served the maximum Justice to the family of the victim.

On his part, counsel to the Chinese national, Quangrong, Dan’Azumi insisted the decision of the Judge was not in conformity with the confessional statement of his client.

Dan’Azumi had appealed to the court to recommend the Chinese national for prerogative of mercy, as allowed under section 313 of the ACJL. He further averted that the convict was a first time offender.

Quangrong, was arrested in September, 2022 for stabbing Ummukulsum Buhari, his girlfriend to death during an encounter at the ladies home in Kaluga quarters in Kano.

Although Quangrong during series of testimonies at the court confessed to have stabbed Ummukulsum in self defence, he however submitted that he would not have deliberately killed a lady he love to marry.
