EDO 2024: SDP guber aspirant vows to reposition state, restore past glory

• Do not fall for moneybags, SDP tells Edo people
• 25-year rotation agreement should be respected, Iseghohi declares

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Edo State, Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen, yesterday, vowed to bring back the glorious days of former Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State (now Edo and Delta states), Brig. Gen. Samuel Ogbemudia, saying that the past governments have left no legacy behind since after the latter.

Izedonmwen said that the SDP is repositioned to continue from the era of Ogbemudia and Prof. Ambrose Alli in enthroning good governance and visionary leadership in the state.

He spoke to newsmen in Benin City during his official declaration to contest the forthcoming governorship election.

While seeking the support and nomination of the people ahead of the party’s primary, he noted that the SDP will be giving the other political parties contesting the forthcoming governorship election a field day.

He said: “While our movement may not boast of the vast resources of larger parties, our determination to serve Edo State stands unwavering. We understand that power ultimately resides in two poles – those with the money and those with the people.

“We call on every Edolite not to fall for the moneybags, but to stand with us, as we stand with the people for history has shown time and again that the true power always lies with the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, an aspirant under the platform of the Labour Party (LP) for the Edo State governorship election coming up in September, Tom Iseghohi, has indicated that even though he is not an advocate of zoning, the agreement entered into 25 years ago should be respected.

Iseghohi stated this while speaking to journalists at the headquarters of the party in Abuja after submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms.

According to Iseghohi, with or without zoning, the LP will take over Edo State because the people love the party and its ideology.

Iseghohi, who also disclosed how he will develop infrastructure in the state, said that security is a major issue he will tackle if he emerged governor.

On the issue of zoning in the state, Iseghohi said he doesn’t believe in zoning, but since the state has been practising zoning in the last 25 years, it is the turn of Edo Central to produce the governor, disclosing that he hails from Edo Central.
