Blind students receive free Avon HMO health plans from Rotary Club Onitsha

RotaryBlind students under the aegis the Anambra State Blind Students Association (ASBSA) have become the latest beneficiaries of affordable healthcare services as they received free membership cards from the Avon Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) community health plan donated by the Rotary Club Onitsha Government Reserved Area (GRA) Charter.

President of the Rotary Club Onitsha GRA Charter, Chimezie Umetiti, at the opening ceremony, said: “The goal of the Rotary Club is to render selfless service to humanity and to help people from all walks of life. The gifting of health plans is perfectly aligned to disease prevention and control, which is a key area of focus for us. These health plans will go a long way in ensuring that people are able to seek medical advice and treatment for conditions without the burden of paying out of pocket.”

As more associations across Nigeria adopt community health plans, greater numbers of local residents are enabled to access regular health services. This recent collaboration with Rotary Club Onitsha GRA Charter is the latest in a series of strategic partnerships forged by health insurance company Avon HMO to provide affordable health plans for Anambra State residents.

Idemili community and environs have continued to feel the impact of the Idemili Community Health Plan, an initiative started through the collaboration of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo), Avon HMO, Iyi-Enu Mission Hospital and the leaders of the community. Launched in January 2015, the Idemili Community Health Plan has given its members low-cost access to primary and secondary health services.
