Experts raise alert on rise in protein deficiency, malnutrition

Medical experts have raise alert on the rising cases of protein deficiency and malnutrition in the country even as they said that the conditions occur at any age due to illness or poor diet which may have devastating consequences on health.

Managing director of VOC Foods Limited, Dr. Victor Chukwuogo, during a press conference on “Health benefits of protein diet” in Lagos, said one of the causes of ailment and death in the country is the consumption of unhealthy meals and lifestyle.

Chukwuogo explained that in spite of the harsh economic realities and poverty experienced by many Nigerians, good dieting and maintaining of healthy lifestyle is probable.

Chukwuogo stressed that dietary protein intake supports the formation and maintenance of healthy body, which necessitated our research and consequent introduction of Duru Wheat meal protein into the Nigerian market.

A nutritionist, Suhurat Jafar, said that whole grain wheat is one of the most wholesome food items and ensures a diet rich in nutrient.
