Group awards scholarship to undergraduates

scholarshipWith the realisation that lack of finance disrupts the aspirations of many young people and that government could not sufficiently cater for the needs of its teeming youth, members of Efon Alaaye Development League, Lagos branch, have awarded scholarships to five undergraduates. In addition, the group has also empowered three other artisans with vocational equipment to startup their business or trade.

The eight beneficiaries who are natives of Efon Local Government Area, Ekiti State, were selected after meeting all the academic criteria stipulated for the award. They include Olawuyi Oluwanifemi Alice; Olajuyigbe Gbenga Michael; Adande Samson Enitan; Kolawole Esther Adekemi and Balogun Oluwatoyin Patricia.

Also, Mr. Ajayi Adeoye Michal Faroye Mayowa Felix and Abajingin Dare, all received photography and barbing equipment having completed their years of apprenticeship from recognised training institute.

While speaking at the presentation of the awards, Chairman of the association, Mr. Emmanuel Ajewole, stressed that the need to pursue vigorously the objectives of the league prompted the award. Ajewole also said the association was not unaware of the plight of Nigerian youth, thus its resolve to help alleviate their sufferings, particularly those from their community.

According to him, “Despite considerable progress made by Ekiti State Government in the educational sphere, we are not oblivious of the fact that our youth are still confronted with financial challenges in achieving their dreams. So many dreams have been lost; many have lost focus due to lack of financial support and considerable turbulence in the global economy.

“The solutions to these problems include better organisation and governance, including equitable distribution of economic resources, which government alone cannot provide. It is very easy to sit up, take notice and criticise. But the league is standing up and setting in motion with over N2m the mechanism and machinery to sponsor the award on a yearly basis.
