A Nigerian immigrant to the Republic of France, Joseph Kenny Ahunwan, has appealed to the Edo State and Federal Government to intervene in his raw deal in the hands of French government.

In a five-page letter to Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, he narrated how some companies in Europe connived with law enforcement agents and the judiciary to implicate unsuspecting immigrants.

He said a Court in France declared him to have been born in Djibouti and of Djiboutian and French Nationality, instead of Benin City, Edo State and therefore of Nigerian nationality.

He said the trump-up charge was designed to make him liable for financial and other criminal offences. Narrating his ordeal, Ahunwan said a court in France pronounced him guilty on a framed charge by his bank, Societe General and Sogefinance, that he solicited personal loans running into thousands of Euros.

He said while the banks used his correct name and presented him as the same person, they claimed that he was born in Djibouti and therefore a Djiboutian national.

Ahunwan, who said his life was in danger, said it was necessary for Nigeria to intervene because he had earlier taken his protest to French President, Francoise Holland and his predecessor; Nicolas Sarkozy.

He commended the two leaders for accepting that he was denied justice in his trial, but claimed that they could not intervene because of the principle of separation of power. Both leaders, he said, urged him to seek legal redress to redeem his image, hence he was appealing to the Nigerian authorities for intervention.

Ahunwan explained that despite the legal remedy made by the police in France, before the appeal Court in March 29, 2011, he did not receive help from Victim Support of Grenoble, the French city where he was forced to live against his will.

He explained that the case, which was in court from October 2008 to December 2012, had depleted his entire resources and caused him pains and abuses. He alleged that the judicial system and law enforcement agents were compromised to implicate him because he is a Nigerian.
