The Concerned Nigerian Youth for Good Governance, a civil society organisation, has praised the Managing Director of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Dr. Emeka Agbasi, for his remarkable performance in maintaining federal roads across the country.

In a press release, the group’s convener, Mahmud Abubakar, highlighted that just six months into his tenure, Dr. Agbasi has utilised his expertise, gained from his experience with the United Kingdom Highway Agency, to significantly enhance the state of Nigeria’s federal roads.

Abubakar noted that under Dr. Agbasi’s leadership, FERMA has successfully maintained over 5,000 kilometres of federal roads, and made nearly 16,000 kilometres motorable, greatly benefiting both commuters and transporters. He further emphasised that Agbasi’s initiatives have created over 25,000 jobs, both skilled and unskilled, thus contributing to the nation’s economic growth.

The ‘Operation Connect Your Destination’ initiative, introduced by Agbasi, has notably improved federal roads, easing travel and reducing traffic congestion. Abubakar added that the National Assembly has recognised and praised Agbasi’s achievements, urging further initiatives like ‘Connect to Your Farm’ to support the agricultural sector.

“He has shown his determination to move the agency from a regime of reactive maintenance to a regime of preventive maintenance, and progress is being made as evidenced by the ministerial KPI reports,” said Abubakar.

“With these impressive results, we express our confidence in Dr. Emeka Agbasi’s leadership at FERMA and urge all Nigerians to support his efforts for continued success. His dedication and commitment to improving federal roads will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on the nation,” he added.
