Foundation empowers 20 women in FCT IDP

Hope Raisers Global Foundation has provided a skills empowerment training programme for 20 women at the Internally Displaced Camp, Durumi FCT.

The Founder Amb (Mrs) Angonimi David-Imeh while speaking to journalists at the end of the 4-week long training programme at the IDP camp said the women were provided with an intensive skill acquisition training program in liquid soap making.

She disclosed that the baseline survey conducted before the empowerment program indicated that most of the women were idle as they did not have any skills whatsoever.

She revealed that the foundation received N4 million grant from Convexity Humanitarian Aid Transfer solution to provide the skill acquisition programme for the IDP, saying they had to conduct a baseline assessment to select the most serious ones among the women.

She said, “After they commenced practicals we noticed that they got it right, they were able to sell all the product they did as we needed to test their skills in sales.”

David-Imeh said aside the training, the women were provided with starter packs from which they can produce 100 liters of liquid soap.

She said “Today they are been given starter packs cost about N50,000 this consist of items to produce 100 liters of liquid soap and the cash of 10,000 was given to them to buy bottles. With this they can produce and start selling.”

She also disclosed that they have also brought in Jaiz bank to train the women on savings culture, saying the women are expected to save, adding that for the next three months they will keep monitoring them to ensure they sustain their businesses.

The founder said, “We will keep monitoring them we still have some funds to support them, our monitoring and evaluation team is continuing with the process of monitoring and evaluating what they are doing in terms of sales, production, savings, at some point we intend to further support them.

She mentioned that although there are over 1000 women in the camp, but their funding can only cater for 20 women, saying if they have more funds they wish to support more women.

One of the beneficiaries Naomi Godiya said they were taught how to produce liquid soap and they have been able to learn fast as they can now produce on their own.

Naomi who has two children said she will further sell the soap to people in the community to feed her children, saying, “I have the confident that I can do it”.
