Group urges Buhari to urgently sign amended electoral bill

In its quest for the emergence of a Nigerian president of Igbo descent, a civil rights group, the South East Resilience and Support Group (SERSUG), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari, to sign the amended electoral bill into law without further delay.

National Coordinator of the group, Prince Chris Azor, disclosed the group’s stance after a South East stakeholders meeting on Advocacy for a Nigerian President of Igbo Extraction (ANPIEX).

“As we approach the 2023 general elections, the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill is important and necessary for free, fair, and credible polls. Therefore, all hands must be on deck to get achieve credible elections for greater development of the country,” the group stated.

Azor, who is also Co-Chair of Open Government Partnership (OGP), said the meeting also deliberated on the need for citizens to work across the geopolitical zones to support the emergence of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction in the 2023 general elections.

It explained that Ndi Igbo supported the South West to produce the President and Vice President for 16 years, just it did for the South-South, adding: “It is only fair and just for the next president of the country to come from the South East.”
