Groups enlighten religious leaders on voter education, civic rights

The Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), through its organ, Ecumenism for Development and Peace Initiative (EDAPI), has partnered with the Community Life Project, to organise a national sensitisation seminar on civil rights and voter education for religious leaders.

The Director of Ecumenism and Interfaith Department, Dr. Testimony Onifade, said the programme “is aimed at engaging spiritual leaders to build their capacity in civil and voter education as citizens.


Notable Speakers at the seminar included Prof. Deji Ayegboyin, Dr Ibrahim Wushishi, Dr. Lesmore Ezekiel, Dr. Samso Adegoke; Prof. Helen Oyekanmi and others.

Onifade said the event would create an avenue to enlighten religious leaders on the political process and also equip them with requisite skills to provide exemplary leadership and guidance.

He also stated that the NBC was partnering with the Community Life Project headed by Dr. Ngozi Iwere to organise the programme for both the citizens and election observers.

The President, NBC, Dr. Israel Akanji asserted that the seminar provide verifiable platforms both spiritual leaders in particular and the public in general.

The NBC, according to him, is concerned about the nation’s political process and the seminar showcases its contribution to nation building.
Dr Kehinde Babarinde, the National Director, Education, Dialogue and Value system initiatives enjoined leaders to provide adequate guidance to the people on voter education.
