IWD: Ondo guber aspirant, Sheba felicitates with Nigerian women

Abayomi Sheba

As women all over the word celebrate the International Women’s Day (IWD) on Friday, a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Abayomi Sheba, has showered praises on Nigerian women, as he encouraged them to be more involved in nation building by taking an active part in efforts to rebuild the nation.

Sheba, a former member of the House of Representatives said in a statement on Friday, that Nigerian women deserved to be celebrated considering they are the pillar on which the peace and development of the nation rested upon.

The former Acting Chairman of the Federal Character Commission admonished Nigerian women to emulate women leaders, who have put in so much for the peace, progress and development of the nation.

“As the world celebrates the womenfolk today, let me add my voice to those who have found our mothers, wives and sisters worthy of celebration.

The sacrifices they have offered for the peace and development of the nation must be recognised and be celebrated. Our women are hardworking, they are intelligent, they excel in their chosen fields of
endeavour and they can compete favourably anywhere they found themselves.

“From the history of our nation, Nigerian women have demonstrated the capacity to be above board, considering their contributions to nation building”.

He also stated, “Through the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) the nation has benefited from the knowledge of great women, who have put the name of Nigeria on world map. I salute your courage, perseverance, doggedness and sense of patriotism. I join world leaders to celebrate you and congratulate you today”.

Meanwhile, ahead of the Ondo State PDP governorship primary election scheduled for April 25, Sheba has officially announced his intention to vie for the party’s ticket.

Speaking at a meeting with PDP leadership in his Irele hometown, the headquarters of Irele local government area of Ondo State on Wednesday, Sheba expressed his eagerness to run and secure victory in the upcoming primary.

“I will be running because I am already committed to honouring the call from my people and serving them if given the opportunity” affirmed Sheba during the meeting.

Acknowledging Sheba’s leadership qualities and philanthropic endeavours, the Local Government PDP chairman, Chief Olagundoye Ajigbore praised the aspirant, saying, “We’re with you, and may God, in His infinite mercy, help you secure the party’s ticket. The testimony of your good works is evident everywhere.”

The gathering included prominent party leaders such as PDP South Senatorial chairman Elder Amos Fadope, former PDP South Senatorial
Chairman Evang Sola Ogoade, and the Assistant State Treasurer of PDP in Ondo State Hon Deolu Akinseye, among others.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support, Sheba thanked the party leaders for their recognition and support. He also extended appreciation to all party members for their encouragement and pledged to continue serving with dedication.

As the political landscape in Ondo State unfolds, Sheba’s candidacy adds a new dimension to the upcoming PDP governorship primary, with
supporters and party leaders anticipating a competitive race.
