IYC warns against plot to instal non-Ijaw as new PAP coordinator

Princewill
The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has warned against recent plot to replace Maj. Gen. Barry Ndiomu, an Ijaw indigene, with a retired Major General from the Urhobo ethnic nationality, as Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), saying that any attempt to change the status quo will cause chaos in the region.

The umbrella body of the Ijaw youths described the plot as a dangerous one, warning those who are making such a plan to urgently retrace their steps, as the group will use every available means to resist it.

According to a statement signed by its spokesman, Binebai Princewill, the group noted that while it will continue to push for a united Nigeria, a peaceful Niger Delta region and harmonious relationship with neighbouring tribes, the Ijaws cannot continue sacrificing with almost no harvest.

IYC added that the amnesty programme is too critical and sensitive to the Niger Delta people to be used to compensate friends politically.

It said the body heard it from credible sources that some individuals close to  President Bola Tinubu  are hatching dangerous plots to install an Urhobo retired military general as the Coordinator of PAP to succeed Ndiomu.

The statement reads: “We know that President Bola Tinubu is a listening President; hence, he will not allow this impending doom to happen because it will surely be resisted by all means available to us as Ijaw people.”
