Lagos plans to equip 3,000 workers with digital skills

Lagos State Government, yesterday, expressed its determination to empower 3,000 of the state’s workforce with the right skills to excel in their respective roles.


This, according to it, will not just make the workers contribute meaningfully to the development of the state, but also allow them to become leaders in the digital revolution.

The state’s Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of a training programme organised by the Ministry of Establishments and Training and Office of Sustainable Development Goals in partnership with United Kingdom (UK)-AID, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office and Tech4Dev, held at the Public Service Staff Development Centre, Magodo, Lagos.

Ayantayo said that the training programme represents a significant step forward in the state government’s commitment to ensuring that civil servants are not just participants, but also leaders in the digital revolution.

He said it was also an investment in creating a workforce that is not only equipped for the present but also prepared for the demands of the future.

Ayantayo said that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was committed to providing a conducive working and learning environment for all public servants.

He, however, expressed the hope that the training programme would enhance productivity across various government ministries, departments and agencies and improve service delivery.

Ayantayo thanked the international partners for recognising the importance of supporting the state in this endeavour, adding that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to fostering sustainable development and creating a positive impact on the life of the people.

In her remarks, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Establishments and Training, Olubusola Abidakun, said the programme was designed to empower the civil servants with the skills and knowledge required to overcome the complexities of the digital age, adding that it also aims to enhance participants’ capabilities and foster a mindset of adaptability within the state’s public service.

She praised the international partners, saying that the collaboration signified the collective commitment to harnessing the power of digital technology for the advancement of the state’s civil service.

The training programme, will end on February 14, 2024 in 10 batches of 300 per batch.
