Methodist prelate tasks FG on long term measures to tackle nation’s woes

Dr. Oliver Aba

The Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, has urged the Federal Government to focus on long-term measures that would address the country’s challenges instead of distributing palliatives to curb the current suffering of Nigerians.

He enumerated such measures to include addressing issues such as inflation, free-fall of the national currency and succinctly tackling the problem of insecurity that has given birth to kidnapping, with kidnappers feeding fat on unfortunate Nigerians through painful extortion termed ransom, among others.

Others include finding solution to the country’s ailing industries and the unrealistic devaluation of the naira.

Aba gave the charge yesterday at the opening session of the three-day 30th Synod of Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, with the theme, ‘Arise And Build’, which took place at Hoare’s Memorial Methodist Cathedral, Sabo-Yaba, Lagos.

“As I plead with the government to focus on building this nation anew, I also call on everyone to undergo mandatory annual check of their bodies, which would go a long way to highlighting the early stages of likely diseases and prevent elongation of any, among others,” he said.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland, The Most Revd. Obafemi Adeleye, in his address, also bemoaned the pervasive insecurity that has gripped the nation, culminating in painful abductions of school children.

Adeleye commended the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his unwavering commitment to education and infrastructural development to the point that schools in Lagos State are now better equipped to provide a conducive learning environment for the children, thereby laying the foundation for their future success.
