Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, has called for partnership between his ministry and security agencies to sanitise and grow the sector and enhance sustainable development.
The minister disclosed this in a statement issued by his Head of Press and Public Relations, Etore Efiom Thomas. This followed a sensitisation workshop in Abuja organised by the ministry for anti-corruption agencies and selected security establishments.
The workshop aimed to shed light on operations of the ministry and its agencies and promote understanding and cordial working relationship.
Adegbite said that as agencies of the Federal Government, the ministry and others are bound by a common objective of achieving good governance for the country through the promotion of security, favourable work environment, prosperity and welfare, with a view to promoting and attracting investment potentials.
He noted that as the ministry strives to deliver on its mandate, it behooves all sister agencies, whose responsibilities are interwoven with the ministry’s, to play their role in ensuring that the enabling environment required for the sector to thrive is safe. He said agencies of government could not afford to work at cross-purposes.
In his remarks, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, said the workshop could not have come at a better time, as it would afford critical stakeholders opportunity for strategic engagement to forge mutual understanding and harmonious working relationship for development.
According to him, the collaboration would assist the ministry in harnessing the enormous potentials in the mining sector for employment generation and wealth creation, which will, in turn, expand the revenue base of the nation’s economy.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary Dr (Mrs.) Oluwatoyin Akinlade, said the workshop was designed to build mutual understanding and amicable working relations between the ministry and other agencies for collective success in harnessing potentials in the sector.
She urged greater solidarity and support, adding that the ministry is willing to work with other agencies on ideas and programmes that are in consonance with its vision and mandate.
