MPB launches electronic verification for military retirees

In a move to enhance the verification process for military retirees, the Military Pension Board (MPB) has officially transitioned from physical to electronic verification.

This initiative, first announced on February 15, 2024, aims to address several critical issues faced by veterans during the verification process.

According to the Chairman of Military Pensions Board (MPB), Air Vice Marshal Paul Irumheson, the shift to electronic verification addresses the security risks associated with traveling, the advanced age of many pensioners and the high cost of transportation, particularly for those residing abroad.

He said that following the initial announcement; a pilot test of the Electronic Verification Management System was conducted from February 19 to March 1, 2024.

According to him, the pilot was a resounding success, with 1,985 out of 2,000 participants completing the exercise successfully. He added that based on the results of the pilot test, the system was further refined to ensure a seamless experience for all users.

Irumheson also disclosed that a full-scale implementation of the Electronic Verification Exercise has been approved by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.

“The MPB is committed to ensuring that all retired military personnel are well-informed and adequately prepared to use the new system. Public awareness campaigns and educational programmes will be launched to guide pensioners through the electronic verification process.

“As announced by the MPB Chairman, the Electronic Verification Exercise is officially open from July 1 to September 30, 2024. All retired pensioners are urged to participate in this crucial exercise. Failure to complete the verification process will result in the suspension of pension payments,” he said.

The MPB boss stressed the importance of active participation in the verification exercise to ensure the continued receipt of pension benefits.
