The Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has accused Vice President Yemi Osinbajo of betraying Christians in a move the group described as the conspiracy theory of the President Muhammadu Buhari government to allegedly wipe out the faithful through the marauding herdsmen.

In a statement yesterday in Yola by its national president, Daniel David Kadzai, the youths flayed Osibanjo’s silence while Christians are being murdered in swathes nationwide. He said: ” We expected to see Osinbajo in Makurdi during the mass burial of the 73 people killed by Fulani herdsmen, but unfortunately, the Vice President abandoned his constituency and he chose to heap blames on Governor Samuel Ortom for shouting to the world over the killing of his people.”

Kadzai reminded the Vice President that the office he currently occupies came to him not necessarily based on personal merit, but due to the religion he belongs. The youth leader added: ” The appointment of security chiefs is a clear indicator that Buhari has an agenda against the Christians. He sacked the NIA boss, a Christian, and replaced him with a Muslim,” saying it is high time the vice president retraced his steps.

When contacted for a response to the allegations, the Special Adviser to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, in a text message requested for a copy of the statement where YOWICAN raised the allegations against the VP before he could respond. Also yesterday, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ondo State alleged that state governors were being coerced to accept the establishment of grazing reserves in their states amid opposition to the proposal.

The chapter chairman, Reverend Ayo Oladapo, stated this in Akure while delivering an address at a summit to round off the 2018 Universal Week of Prayers. He said it was disturbing that the Federal Government remained indifferent to the wailing of the Benue people who lost scores of their loved to the massacre allegedly orchestrated by herdsmen.
