‘Count Ortom out of N4.29b graft probe’
For the umpteenth time Benue State Government has denied that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, over a N4.29b fraud.
The media has been awash with speculations that the governor allegedly siphoned the huge sum through the personal bank account of a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Emmanuel Udende.
But the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and ICT, Mr. Tahav Agerzua, debunked the claims, saying they are false, mischievous and a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of Governor Ortom and his administration.
In a statement, yesterday, Agerzua maintained that neither his boss nor his officials are under investigation by EFCC or any anti-graft body, stressing that Mr. Udende had already clarified the issue and denied the authenticity of the said bank details.
“EFCC does not need to be told when huge money hits somebody’s account, because the Nigerian Financial Intelligence, NFI, Unit is an arm of the Commission, which alerts them about all large sum transactions,” he said.
