Court hears Seriki’s case against Olubadan today
The case instituted by the Seriki of Ibadan land, High Chief Adebayo Oyediji , on behalf of himself and others in the Seriki Olubadan lineage, will come up for hearing today at the State High Court, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Relying on a Supreme Court judgment of 1989, which he said was entered in his favour, he , alongside other members of his family, are seeking committal judgment against the newly installed Olubadan of Ibadan, Saliu Adetunji , insisting that he , Oyediji was next in line to the Olubadan stool, after the demise of the last monarch of the ancient city.
In case No 1/ 149/ 2016, which replicates another with No 1/421/2007, instituted in 2007, the Seriki family patriarch is seeking for interlocutory application for an order of perpetual injunction against the Olubadan.
The motion which will be heard today by the state Chief Judge, Muktar Abimbola, was filed by his legal counsel, A.G, Adeniran, on behalf of the Seriki family lineage comprising its leader, Chief Adebayo Adediji, Chief Olalekan Adisa Fakunle, Chief Abinupagun and Chief Gabriel Amoo, on behalf of themselves and the Seriki chiefs of Ibadanland.
They are praying for, among other things, an interim injunction restraining the State Governor, the State Attorney General, Chief Lekan Balogun and Chief Solomon
Adabale from appointing or approving the appointment of Chief Saliu Adetunji as the new Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Other respondents in the case which was filed on Tuesday at Oyo State High Court of Justice, Ibadan, were Chief Saliu Adetunji, a former governor of the state Chief Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Eddy Oyewole.
Others are Chief Kola Daisi, Chie Owolabi Olakulehin, Chief Olufemi Olaifa and Chief Tajudeen Ajibola.
