CP allays fear over Boko Haram threat in Akwa Ibom
Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani, has dismissed any form of Boko Haram attack in the state, saying the recent torching of five churches in parts of the state has no connection with the Islamic terrorist group.
He made the disclosure yesterday in Uyo after decorating 19 newly promoted Superintendents of Police (SPs) with their new ranks.
According to him, the affected worship centres were attacked by hoodlums who, perhaps, capitalised on their porousness, as none of them had a perimeter fence.
Mani charged worshipers not to panic, advising however that, since security is everybody’s business, the leadership of churches in the state with no perimeter fences should try to put one for protection.
“People should not be afraid of what had happened, it was probably the handiwork of people within. All the churches that are affected are so porous, no fencing, we don’t have to nurse the fear of Boko Haram.
“To put the records straight, they did not burn down churches but chairs and musical instruments and tithe boxes,” he added.
