YEASTERDAY’S scheduled arraignment before a Lagos High Court, Ikeja, of the alleged killer of Lagos-based human rights crusader, Kunle Fadipe, did not hold following the absence of the suspect’s defence counsel.

When the matter came up for hearing, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mrs. Idowu Alakija, had informed the court of their readiness.

However, the suspect, Seun Oladapo, told the presiding Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye that he did not know he would be brought to court yesterday and does not know his defendant’s whereabouts.

Ipaye, therefore, ordered the DPP to send his case file to the Office of Public Defendant (OPD) and notify them on the adjourned date, while ordering the defendant to arrange for a lawyer, adding, “because of the nature of the charge against you (defendant), the court cannot wait till eternity.

“You should make arrangement for a lawyer but if you cannot afford one, get one from the Office of Public Defender. To give him sufficient time to get a lawyer, take the covering letter to the Office of Public Defender.” She subsequently adjourned till July 22, 2015 for arraignment.
