Federal Government begins Ekwueme’s final funeral rites

The Federal Government yesterday unveiled burial plans for the late former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, who died November 19, 2017 in a London hospital.

Addressing newsmen on the programme of events, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who is the chairman of the national burial committee, said it is aimed to ensure that the late elder statesman is given a befitting burial.

The final funeral programme released by the SGF’s office indicate that in Lagos on Friday, January 19, there will be memorial service by  2:00pm at the Cathedral Church of Christ Marina, Lagos, while an evening of tributes and  music holds at 5:00pm same day at The Landmark, Oniru.

On Saturday, by 5:00pm, a memorial service will hold at St Marylebone Parish Church, London, W1.

On February 1, the body departs for for a commendation service at Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Same day at 4:00pm, the body departs for Oko by motorcade and by 5:00pm there will be service of songs.

On February 2, the body will lay in state by 8:00am while the funeral service holds at St. John the Divine Church, Oko by 1:00am and outing service holds on Sunday February 11, by 9:00am, at the same church.
