FRSC boss cautions drivers against over-speeding
The Zonal Commanding Officer Zone 2 Lagos of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Nseobong Charles Akpabio, an Assistant Corps Marshal, has advised motorists to be safety conscious why plying the roads during this rainy season.
Speaking on measures to eliminate the root causes of accidents and hazards on the road at the third Nigerian Safety and Security (NSAS) award and lecture series, which took place recently, Akpabio advised Nigerians not to go above stipulated speed limits, as this is the major cause of most automobile accidents.
He added further that most of the tyres on Nigerian cars are expired and this has been attributed to the spate of accidents in recent times on the highways.
“What many motorists don’t know is that some of these tyres are not meant for some type of vehicles, but for agricultural utility vehicles. Also, most vehicle users abuse the use of seat belts, as some individuals deceive themselves by using ropes as seat belts,” he said.
The guest lecturer, Mr. Lucky Oderhowo, managing director of Rholuck Services Nigeria Ltd, who spoke on environmental impact assessment, safety and security, said charity begins at home and that there is a need for the re-orientation of individuals in the society to be security conscious.
“Everybody needs safety as an individual. Safety starts with you and ends with me. As individuals, we are all responsible for our health, safety and environmental issues.”
