Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has collected his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a four-year second term in office.
The ceremony took place yesterday at the INEC office in Awka and was witnessed by several dignitaries, including the National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye; former National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh; former National Secretary, Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi; current National Secretary, Labaran Maku; Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chief Ifeanyi Uba and members of the Anambra State Executive Council.
The Commission also issued a Certificate of Return to Mrs. Nkoli Umeanaeze, who last Saturday won the bye-election to represent Idemili North Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
The INEC National Commissioner, Legal, Mrs. May Agbamuche, who handed over the certificate to Obiano, commended the INEC in the state, security agencies, the media and all others who contributed to the success of the November 18 gubernatorial election in the state.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nkwachukwu Orji, said the certificate collection was a means to an end, pointing out that the end is the development of Anambra State.
He advised that the outcome of the election should not divide the people of Anambra but rather they should continue as one.
Meanwhile, Obiano, in his remark, said he was very happy for the day’s event and expressed gratitude to God for winning in all the 21 local councils in the state.
He specifically expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari whom he noted kept to his word of allowing smooth flow of the election process.
Obiano, who also thanked the people of Anambra State for the trust bestowed on him and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members for their support, pledged to perform much better than he did during his first tenure.
He called on those who contested the election to join hands with him in doing the enormous work ahead.
