Suspected herdsmen went on rampage in Ogun State, allegedly killing a farmer in Afon, Imeko-Afon Local Government area of the State.

The farmer, identified as Adetona Owolabi, was said to have been working on his farmland located few metres away to the newly constructed bridge at Afon, along Owode/Abeokuta road when he was attacked by the herdsmen for challenging them when their cattle was grazing on his farm.

It was gathered that the cattle destroyed his farm produce such as cassava, yam and vegetables.

When contacted to confirm the incident, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed that he was yet to be briefed over the incident but promised to get back when he is fully briefed.

The incident occurred barely few hours after the State Government held a meeting with security chiefs and representatives of the various interest groups, including the leaders of the Fulani, Hausa communities and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria.

The meeting was held in order to prevent clashes between herdsmen and farmers and also to ensure safety of lives and property.

The deceased, who was in his mid-60s, it was learnt, was inflicted with varying degrees of machete cuts all over his body until he died.
