The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP),Ibrahim Idris, has warned officers in the police force to shun tribalism and nepotism while carrying out their duties, saying any officer found guilty of this would be sanctioned.

He also ordered that all policemen attached to individuals and unauthorised places should be withdrawn immediately. He stated this at the weekend during the passing out ceremony of mobile police officers who attended a three-month training programme at the Police Mobile Force Training School at Ila Orangun, Osun State.

He reiterated the determination of the Nigeria Police Force to rid the system of corruption, insisting that it was mandatory for all officers from the rank of assistant superintendent of police to the IGP to declare their assets.

The IGP said the reorganisation and restructuring going on in the police is part of efforts to ensure friendly policing and promote healthy relationship with the citizens.

He said: “I charge you to take supervision and control of your men very seriously as this is the hallmark of a disciplined and responsible officer.”“As commanders of the operational arm of the force, it is of utmost importance that you display a high sense of professionalism by ensuring that your personnel are appropriately deployed to authorised persons only.

“On this premise, all personnel deployed to unauthorised beats/individuals should be withdrawn immediately because policemen are not body guards.”In his speech at the occasion, the commandant of the college, ACP Mohammed Dankwara, stated that the course participants had exhibited a high sense of discipline and commitment while the training lasted.

Also speaking at the event, Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, asked the new IGP to tackle cases of kidnapping, insurgency and other security challenges in the nation. He stated the determination of his administration to work with the police to combat crime in the society.
