Jonathan urges youth to vie for leadership positions
Former President Goodluck Jonathan, has joined millions of youth across the country in the call for elimination of age barriers for political offices.Jonathan spoke when students and youth groups, including the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), paid him a birthday visit in his country home, Otouke.
He urged the youths to cultivate the will to make sacrifices for the country when they are in position to do so.The former president who turned 60, said he never regretted the action he took when he congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, for winning the last presidential election.
Jonathan said although He described the occasion as unprecedented and memorable, saying it was the second time he would celebrate his birthday.“If one of the super powers and G5 nations like France can elect a thirty-nine years old as president, then almost all of you here are very qualified to be president,” Jonathan said.
And to add to what France did, I think Austria elected a thirty-one years old as president. So, don’t consider yourself too young and even in our country, Gowon became a head of state at thirty-two,” Jonathan said,
