MemberS of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and associated group, Biafra Independence Movement (BIM) have dissociated themselves from the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).

Consequently, they have denied any link or alliance with the NDA as published in one of the national dailies (not The Guardian). In a statement made available to journalists in Owerri yesterday, the groups urged the public to disregard the publication, stating that while the NDA has its ideology and mission, theirs were different, with the realisation of Biafra nation at their motive.

The statement, jointly signed by a member of MASSOB’s Elders Council, Chief Okechukwu Nwaogu, and the Owerri zonal leader of the group, Canice Anojuru, described as false the newspaper publication linking them with Niger Delta Avengers.

It stated: “MASSOB and BIM have unequivocally condemned in its entirety the June 15, 2016 publication claiming that MASSOB and Niger Delta Avengers are working together.

“It is imperative to inform the public rightly that miscreants want to hijack the struggle of the freedom of Biafra due to selfish interests.”The statement continued: “At no time has pro-Biafra groups mandated anybody to interface with it and any freedom fighter group whether for Biafra or for resource control. There is no crack in MASSOB and BIM. We are non-violent pro-Biafra groups and have different methodology when compared with the operational method of the Niger Delta Avengers.”
