After one year of crisis at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, Imo State, the medical director of the centre, Dr. Angela Uwakwem, at the weekend, resumed duties, in line with the directive of the Minister of Health, Dr. Isaac Adewole.

Briefing journalists at the boardroom of the centre, Uwakwem, who urged staff members of the facility to quickly resume duty, promised to put to rest for now, the issue of Public Private Partnership (PPP), which caused the crisis.

Accompanied by the team leader from the Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Amedu, a representative of the permanent secretary Bassey Mfon, she said: “The minister has reinstated the medical director, and we are back for effective service delivery. We are to ensure we mitigate the sufferings of Imo people. There is no victor, no vanquish.”

She continued: “I want to quickly dismiss the issue of PPP. PPP was extensively discussed at that time. It is not privatization. We are to offer accountability, transparency and strengthen partnerships.”

Uwakwem assured that no member of staff would be victimised for his, or her role during the strike, and the entire crisis period, and promised to ensure that optimal services would be delivered to the public under her.
