Ladoja decries poor condition of state-owned hospitals

ACCORD Party (AP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Rashidi Ladoja has decried the poor state of government owned medical facilities in the state.

He noted with dismay that a situation where expectant mothers who visited government owned hospitals are told to provide such materials as medical gloves, torchlight, cotton wool and other materials aside from other charges is undesirable

Playing host to members Oyo State Women for Better Governance led by its president, Mrs Ramat Gbadegesin at his Bodija residence in Ibadan Ladoja said though the ruling party in the state continues to inundate the media about its wonderful achievements in the health sector, the reality on ground showed that the sector has been largely neglected

He noted that the morale of medical workers in the state is low, while there are shortages of medical staff in many government hospitals.     Besides, he said lack of drug supplies to the hospitals has reduced them to mere consulting clinics.

He stressed further that it is shameful when expectant mothers are told to provide such small items as gloves, cotton wools, and torchlights, before they are attended to.

Ladoja maintained that the people of the state are now better enlightened and can tell the difference between a government that cares for them in the true sense of the word and one who does that only on the pages of newspapers and billboards.

He promised that if elected in next month’s election his administration would accord necessary attention to the health sector, with emphasis on mother and child health.

The AP candidate said that records are there for all to see what government owned hospitals were like between 2003 and 2007 when he was governor of the state.

Gbadegesin said her group visited Ladoja to show their support for his election, stressing that she was in the state public service when he governed the state between 2003 and 2007 and could see the difference in terms of service delivery.

She remarked that his outstanding performance at that time informed the association’s decision to endorsed him as their candidate.
