Officials of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Kaduna State have accused Governor Nasir El-Rufai of employing unqualified teachers, immediately he assumed office in 2015, insisting that the recent sack of 22,000 was for political reasons.

According to the NUT officials, the scripts displayed by El-Rufai on the internet were those of messengers and carpenters that the governor forcefully converted to teachers on his assumption of office.

The Union Chapter Chairman in Zaria, Mallam Yahaya Abbas, spoke in an interview with journalists in Zaria yesterday, saying that investigation conducted by the union revealed that the governor had employed unqualified teachers immediately he assumed office for political reasons.

Abbas said: “We were disturbed when we saw those scripts. This was why we investigated. You may recall that el-Rufa’i has directed the conversion of all redundant staff in the local education authorities to teachers. Among those converted were messengers, carpenters, labourers, security personnel among others. We were made to write the exam in question with these people”.

“Our investigation further revealed that candidate number EKUB 0059 displayed by El-Rufa’i was a carpenter in Kubau local council, before he was forcefully redeployed to the classroom. Candidate number EKUB 2839 was a messenger in the same local council.”

Abbas called on the government to rescind its decision to sack the teachers and deploy other means of fishing out unqualified teachers.
