Officers’ wives seek self-reliance through skill acquisition

The Ebonyi State chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) has urged the Federal Government to initiate skill acquisition schemes for wives of serving personnel to make then self-reliant in the event of incapacity to their spouses.

Its leader Mrs. Celine Okoro, who spoke yesterday in Abakaliki, decried the poor economic condition of some members, calling for a change of approach.Earlier, Governor David Umahi led other important personalities lay wreaths for the departed soldiers.

The Manager, Ebonyi State Defence Limited, Group Captain Nkua Achibong (rtd) said while there were areas of improvement in the welfare of retired and serving officers, the Federal Government should be commended for coming up with free medical treatment for members of the Nigerian Legion.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Chief Augustine Nwankwoagu, commended the military for their exploits in the troubled parts of the country and enjoined the citizens to give them maximum support by conducting their affairs in a manner that would not jeopardise the unity of the country.
