Ondo NSCDC Destroys Over 40, 000 Litres Of Diesel, Arrests 12 Suspects
In its effort to end illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism in the country, according to the state Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NSCDC, Mr. Kayode Balogun, “Ondo state command has destroyed more than forty thousand (40,000) litres diesel oil stored in surface tanks and drums in Ugbo, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state and nabbed 12 suspects in connection with bunkering activities in the riverine area of the state.”
He revealed that the operation, which was carried out by the combined team of anti-vandal and armed squad units of the command at about 5:30am on Thursday morning, arrested the suspects.
Other items seized from the suspects include: 6 pumping machines, 1 motorcycle, 2 generators and 3 big hoses, which according to report, were suspected to be used in draining the product from the pipeline. Eleven of the suspects were arrested at Ugbo in Ilaje local government area while the remaining one was arrested in Okitipupa, all in the riverine part of the state. The suspects and the exhibits seized from them were paraded on Friday at the Command Headquarters in Akure, while the State Commandant of the Corps, Commandant Danladi Yakubu said the corps would do everything possible to stop pipeline vandalism, oil bunkering and other criminal activities in the state.
