Party fumes at destruction of its campaign posters, billboards

Willie Obiano

Willie Obiano, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in Anambra’s November 18 governorship election, has accused Dr. Tony Nwoye and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of destroying his billboards and posters.

Obiano, the incumbent governor of the state, spoke through the secretary of his campaign organisation, Premious Odilli, claiming APGA had uncovered plots by APC to mobilise miscreants for further destruction, warning that any attempt to pull down APGA’s posters would be resisted.

He however noted that his party members were not troublemakers and would not disrupt the peace.

“Last week, Tuesday, we woke up and found that some of our posters and billboards in front of the Federal Road Safety Corps, State Headquarters, and along the Onitsha-Enugu expressway were destroyed by APC supporters.

“Apart from that, we have it on good authority that they have recruited some hoodlums disguised as workers protesting for their pensions and gratuities.

“The idea is for them to go out and destroy our posters under the pretext of protesting. This is a worker-friendly government. This is the only state that pays workers on the 24th of every month, with a promise to increase workers’ salaries before the end of this year, 2017.

“We are using this opportunity to alert security agents to watch out for these people. We are ready for a peaceful election. They intend to coerce us into violence, but we will not be. Anambra will be calm during this election because we have no opposition. APC leaders and supporters must stop destroying our posters in the interest of peace. They should know that nobody has a monopoly of violence.”
