PDP marched to NASS, INEC to protest against Fayose’s ‘attack’

The People’s Democratic Party Thursday staged a protest to the office of Independent Electoral Commission and National Assembly to protest against the alleged assault by men of the Nigeria Police on the Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.

PDP on Wednesday claimed that “Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose was attacked by policemen allegedly on the order of President Muhammadu Buhari” ahead of the state governorship election holding on Saturday, July 14.

The National Chairman of the Party, Uche Secondus led the protest to submit a petition to the lawmakers on the alleged actions of the police at Ekiti yesterday.

“The @OfficialPDPNig leaders are in front of the @nassnigeria to submit petition on the brutality of Ekiti people by the policemen but were blocked by security” PDP tweeted.

The party said it went to INEC office to submit a petition against the opposition party candidate Kayode Fayemi on suspicion of plans to rig the election.

“The protest march of leaders of @OfficialPDPNig also visited the office of @inecnigeria to register another petition on the plans by INEC technical staff and other officers to preload the Card readers in order to rig the Ekiti election in favour of @kfayemi @APCNigeria”.

The election will involve 34 candidates officially listed by INEC but expected to be fierce between APC and PDP.

APC chieftain in Ekiti State, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, however, described the alleged attack on Fayose as a “stunt”  aimed at winning sympathy votes.

Adeyeye, a former national spokesman for the PDP and now a member of APC, said the governor has always been known to be dramatic.

“Fayose has always been a dramatist. He has always been acting drama,” Adeyeye said in a statement hours after the PDP claimed Fayose was beaten and teargassed by policemen in Ado Ekiti.

“Ekiti people should ignore him and remain resolute in their determination to throw him out of office and out of Ekiti State completely, on July 14.”
