Teenager, Isioma Osubor, appeals for sponsorship to study abroad

Seventeen-year old Isioma Osubor has appealed to well meaning Nigerians to support her quest to study abroad.

Osubor whose academic brilliance has been rewarded with a university admission by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has called on the government as well as corporate and non-governmental organisations to assist in actualising her dream. The MIT is reputed to be the best in the world for engineering studies.

Delta-state born Osubor while appealing to well meaning Nigerians for support said she needed sponsorship to enable her fulfill her dream and contribute her quota to the development of the nation.

While Isioma was in year nine, she enrolled for SSAT examinations and attained the full scores. Subsequently Cranbrook Schools in USA identified and offered her both admission and scholarship to complete her secondary education.

Besides being an all ‘A’ student, and the highlight of gaining outstanding university admissions, Isioma obtained SAT full score as well as full scores in Mathematics and Chemistry SAT single subjects.

While extolling the exceptional qualities of her daughter, Mr Joseph Osubor said, “She has a track record of performance right from her primary school days. At a young age, Isioma’s most frequent remark was why get less when you can get more.

Even in the United States, Teachers saw in Isioma a wonderful child who they said knew what she wanted in life and required little and in some cases no assistance to attain her best”.

Osubor however lamented that with his position as a retiree, the family would need the support of Nigerians to fund her education.

He said, “I am overwhelmed. We are already approaching some Foundations and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state to assist us with her fees currently estimated at $67,000 per year.”
