Wike seeks review of revenue sharing formula

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has called for review of the revenue sharing formula to boost capacity of state governments to meet their financial obligations.

Wike wondered why the Federal Government would negotiate wage increase with workers without the involvement of the states.

The governor made the call at the Government House, Port Harcourt yesterday when the state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Nkpogone Dumnaatah Lucky led the union to visit him.

He assured the union that his administration would continue to invest in infrastructure in the education sector. He promised to introduce incentives and allowances for teachers in rural areas. The governor said the issue of some teachers omitted from the salary spreadsheet for February and March 2016 would be addressed.

The teachers endorsed him for a second term in office, saying they were satisfied with the achievements in the education sector.

“Teachers have endorsed you (Wike) for re-election. We are not politicians, but we shall deliver our votes enmasse for you. Come 2019, we want to see you continue as governor of Rivers State. We want you to continue your good works for the state,” Lucky said.
