NLC shut down airport, hospitals, key sectors in Niger


The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Chapter, has joined counterparts across the country to ensure compliance with the ongoing nationwide indefinite strike action as directed by the headquarters of the union.


The state Chairman of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Ibrahim Gana, in collabouration with state NLC Exco and other sister unions’ executives in the state, led a joint labour committee on the monitoring and evaluation of the strike action.

The monitoring team visited Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport Minna, Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS); Federal Secretariat complex; Niger State High Court complex, Minna; Niger State Board of Internal Revenue Services,
Niger State Urban Development Board; Niger State Universal Basic Education Board; General Hospital; office of the Deputy Governor; Niger State Secretariat; as well as Niger State House Assembly.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the monitoring, Gana expressed delight at the level of compliance by the NLC members across all the sectors in the state.


Gana stressed that the strike action embarked upon by the NLC is for the betterment of the citizens, promising that no stone will be left unturned to achieve success in the ongoing struggle.

All the sectors visited by the NLC officials were shut down, especially Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, Minna, Federal Inland Revenue Services, General Hospital Minna, and the Federal Secretariat Complex, among others.

He noted that the compliance was 99% except for some organisations where a few members of staff turned up for skeletal services but were chased out by the NLC officials.
