Police nab man for killing mother over N10,000

A young man, identified as Owate Bode, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his mother with a cutlass in Eleme Local Council of Rivers State.
  
The Guardian learnt that the suspect, who became infuriated by his mother’s refusal to grant his request of N10, 000, used machete to butcher his mother on Saturday.
  
A family source said the suspect demanded N10,000 from the mother which he intend using to purchase illicit drugs, but his mother refused. The suspect allegedly used cutlass to machete his mother, who is a Government Primary School teacher, several times for refusing to give him the money.
  
It was gathered that the suspect was apprehended by the community youths and handed over to the police, while the remains of the deceased were taken to the mortuary.
   
When contacted, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the incident. She said the suspect confessed to the crime but said he used a hoe to hit the mother on the head.
 
Iringe-Koko added that the Commissioner of Police (CP), Effiong Okon, has ordered for the transfer of the suspect from Eleme Police Division to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for discreet and thorough investigation.
