Rivers State Police Command has recommended the dismissal of officers alleged to have extorted $3,000 from a victim in Abia State.

Recall that on January 19, the command paraded two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), identified as Doubara Edonyabo and Talent Mungo, and one police Inspector, Michael Odey, over the offence.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, recommended the dismissal of Edonyabo and Mungo.

The recommendation has been forwarded to the Force Secretary for necessary action.

Disu noted that the orderly room trial of Inspector Odey had been concluded and approved by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, in charge of Zone 16, Bayelsa State, AIG Alifa Omata, who upheld his dismissal.

He added that the officer has been relieved of his duty since February 7.

Disu encouraged residents to promptly report any misconduct by law enforcement agents. He assured residents that all reports will be handled with utmost seriousness, and that appropriate actions will be taken to uphold fairness and justice.
