Lawmaker backs APGA’s Obiano, cautions against irregularities

The chairman of the judicial committee in the Anambra House of Assembly, Chugbo Enwezor, has warned people of the state to be vigilant and resist attempt to meddle with their collective will during the forthcoming governorship election.

Enwezor (Onitsha North Constituency) also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and heads of security agencies to reassure voters of their impartiality.

The legislator said the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was fully prepared for the election, adding that since the party took over the mantle of leadership in the state, Anambra had moved from decay to excellence.

He said: “We are well prepared for this election in terms of showcasing the clear accomplishments we have achieved. What all other political parties have been busy doing has been how to undo APGA. They are sufficiently afraid of APGA that they do everything to whittle down our popularity and achievements.

“Governor Obiano has accomplished much in this his first tenure. We have experienced growth as a state even in the period of recession. This government is standing on a firm ground. I am of the view that this government has accomplished so much. And the people are ready to support him for next four years.”

He dismissed calls by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) for people to boycott the election, saying: “IPOB doesn’t have the capacity to continue agitation to the extent that it will impact on the election. If they continue to do that, they are undermining the sovereignty of the nation. They should desist because if the election fails, it will bring anarchy and lawlessness. And what alternatives do we have? What is happening is a clear misunderstanding of democracy. Nobody has the right to undermine or stop the election. They should stop this campaign immediately.”
