Ogboru calls for election timetable reversal

GOVERNORSHIP Candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Delta State, Chief Great Ogboru, has reiterated his support for the reelection bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.

Ogboru who spoke during a media interaction in Lagos yesterday however suggested a reversal of the order of the elections by having the governorship and State House of Assembly polls before the presidential election.

He hinged his call for the reversal on the tension in the polity, saying the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to threaten that if it did not win, it meant the election was rigged.

He explained that the serious tension pervading the country could only be brought down by placing the governorship poll before the presidential election

According to him, “The sequence of elections should be reversed. The tension of having the presidential election first before others is high. It is already even being assumed that a particular party had won the poll and if otherwise, then there is rigging. Let us conduct Governorship and Assemly election first.”

On his resolve to back Jonathan, Ogboru said there is the need to demonstrate the virtue of good neighbourliness many people in his Delta constituency are Ijaw like Jonathan.

Ogboru said other reasons he is supporting Jonathan is that Nigeria had the opportunity of conducting free and fair poll only in 2011 under his able leadership, “a feat the country could not achieve under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.”   He also expressed fear over the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the elections, saying “for the commission’s chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, to have told the Senate that the electoral body was better prepared now showed that it was not prepared before the postponement of the exercise.”

Meanwhile, the Director General of Ogboru Campaign Organisation, Peters Omaruaye, has expressed optimism about the victory of the LP candidate in the Delta state poll.

Speaking at a recent media chat, he said “Ogboru is an Iconic Brand in politics trusted by majority of our people for his excellent track record in global business and sound political convictions. His grassroots political machine is equal to none and even his opponents know it.”

According to him, Ogboru is determined to bring value-orientation to public leadership in Delta State and lift the standard of leadership. He indicated that a “Labour party government led by Chief Ogboru in Delta State will be very reference point for revolutionary transformation.

“We will create employment through massive industrialization.     We will bring back companies to this state. We will ensure that our seaports come back to life and drive this state’s economy. We will build modern schools, heath facilities and sports facilities.

“We will establish the first social security system for the elderly in our state. Religious leaders will have a place of pride in governance. Ogboru’s Equal Opportunities Development Initiative has been refined to develop the entire state on an equitable basis. We will create corporate development vehicles to be manned by the best and finest amongst us.”

He appealed to the people of the state to ensure that they all get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) because according to him, “if INEC gets the e-card reading system right, then that is the game changer and those who have rigged in the past will be history.”

Omaruaye however declined to comment on the chances of the PDP and APC in the governorship election insisting that his duty “is to run Chief Ogboru’s grassroots campaign efficiently for victory and not to be distracted by the antics of traditional election riggers who may just be going into extinction or newspaper tigers and propagandists who cannot attract our people to campaign grounds.”
